Events & Membership Manager

Job Description

The Texas Water Association (TWA) is seeking a full-time Events & Membership Manager to lead the planning and execution of the Association's conferences, meetings, and events while supporting membership engagement, retention, and development efforts. This position has primary responsibility for the Association's conferences and serves as the lead staff contact for event planning and member engagement activities.

This position requires extensive interaction with TWA members, policymakers, sponsors, vendors, and fellow TWA employees. The Events & Membership Manager serves as one of the Association's primary ambassadors and plays a key role in fostering strong member relationships by delivering well-executed conferences, meetings, and events.

Applicants must live in the greater Austin area (or be willing to relocate), have a valid work authorization, and be willing to undergo a background check. TWA has a rolling application period and will begin interviews as qualified candidates apply.

Essential Functions

Events

  • Lead the planning and execution of TWA conferences, meetings, and other Association events
  • Develop event timelines and coordinate all logistical aspects of events, including staff roles
  • Negotiate and coordinate with host hotels, venues, caterers, and other conference vendors
  • Develop and manage conference budgets and support financial reconciliations
  • Recruit, coordinate, and support conference sponsors, exhibitors, and participants
  • Support event communications and promotional efforts and conduct conference evaluations and surveys
  • Supervise event staff and volunteers, as applicable

Membership

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for current and prospective members
  • Lead membership recruitment, retention, and engagement initiatives
  • Analyze membership trends, develop feedback opportunities, and identify areas for growth and engagement
  • Support TWA’s Membership & Services Committee
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager and Administrative Assistant to ensure accurate membership records and renewal processes
  • Coordinate outreach efforts with the TWA Risk Management Fund

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree plus three or more years of relevant conference or large event planning experience; seven years of experience may substitute for the required degree
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and the ability and willingness to learn new technology platforms
  • Strong communication, customer service, and teamwork skills, with the ability to build positive professional relationships
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgment, and work independently while contributing as part of a small, collaborative team
  • Interest in learning about the Texas water industry and supporting TWA's mission

Preferred

  • Five or more years of conference and event-specific experience
  • Experience working with associations or nonprofits
  • Familiarity with membership management software and conference registration platforms

Additional Details

  • This is a hybrid position based in Austin, Texas, with three in-office days per week required.
  • This role requires occasional in-state overnight travel, including weeklong travel to three conferences each year.
  • TWA is a small, collaborative organization with six employees. While this position leads conferences and member engagement, all staff contribute across functions to support the Association's success.
  • Salary range is $80,000–$90,000 annually and dependent on experience and qualifications. TWA also provides health insurance and cell phone stipends, significant SEP retirement contributions, generous paid time off and holidays, professional development opportunities, and a flexible work environment.
